Look! FO’s

In my world, this sooo counts!

Here's a finished office area that was even used Monday and Tuesday.

I’m on my way to the craft store to get ribbon, zippers, and new handles.

This is one of Mildew’s Mother’s day gifts.

Finished sock and pattern a week before it was due out! Kit will be available Sunday, April 1st.

Ignore my skinny little legs. That would be why I don’t wear frilly bobby socks!

No guilt!

Cashmere project. GONE!!

Drawstring bag. GONE! Actually today since I ran out of time last night.

Hobo bag. GONE!

Burial Bunting. Not gone, but will not be finished. By me. If I can find someone who will, I’ll gladly hand it off.

It's nice not to have the guilt hanging over my head. and I now have a little more space for S&W!

Finish it or Frog it.

Brilliant idea I got from somewhere (I think maybe Lime & Violet) and we decided to do it at tonight’s Guild meeting.

The idea is that you bring in your stubborn UFO’s.

- You know the one. You started out fine, were about 2 or 3 skeins into the project, then – BAM! A baby gift to knit, so you put it down.
While you were at your LYS looking for that baby yarn, you got your hands on some FAB hand dyed merino.
Then there was that cashmere that just leaped into your basket.
Don’t forget S&W!
Add a new knitting book (or 3), the latest Interweave, Vogue Knitting, …and lo and behold, the cute preschooler you were knitting the bubblegum pink/orange/chartreuse (her color choices) sweater for, is studying for her SAT’s. -

Then you show it to the group. They will then decide for you if you should actually finish the darn thing or give up and frog the sucker.

I generously offered to bring my winder and swift to do the deed if you can’t bring yourself to do it yourself.

I’m good at it (right STT?).

Here’s what I’m taking:

Cashmere project. Same dye lot, two totally different colors. I think it takes the prize for the most times that I started something with it and frogged. I believe this is attempt #5.

Drawstring bag I started with yarn from S&W 2 years ago, and a field trip STT and I took last year.

Hobo bag I started to crochet back before I started knitting.

Burial Bunting. I started it as a charity project and just can’t seem to work on. It’s been 2 ½ years… maybe if I frog it I’ll donate the yarn or make premie caps out of it.

We’ll see what they say…

I want to live in the UK

Beautiful landscape, great houses, history and TV!!!

Mary, are you willing to take in a border?

Lent continued…

We are in our 4th week of Lent. I’ve already blown my Lenten resolution despite my friends and family trying to help out.

I even got a new rosary that I love.
And haven’t been able to gather my gray matter in enough to do it.

To make matters worse, I teach catechism. There was a special program for the kids this week about Lent and what it all means and the subject came up about what happens when you break your Lenten resolutions.

No guilt there…

I went to confession afterwards, and I’m working on my penance.

I’ve spent the afternoon surfing, with the intention of getting the printout of praying the Rosary (again) and got sidetracked by the Holy See. Every time I stumble on to this site accidentally, I’m there for HOURS! It’s just too cool!

Happy Birthday Miss K.!

And happy St. Patricks Day to everyone.
Breakfast:

Tonight’s dinner menu:
Guinness Stew
Corned Beef with Cabbage
Asparagus Soup (going with color)

Miss K is my Bible study leader, great Mom to 3 and I’m lucky to call her friend.

Last week, Miss K’s hubby threw her a surprise party with a twist. Since she was celebrating her 40th, he wanted us to be in our best 80’s garb.

There was a familiar figure there:

And I missed the shot of his wife looking like Molly Ringwald.

A lot of HS shirts, a color block shirt – you know the one! Concert T’s.

Here’s CFO in one of his favorites:

And me.

No, I didn’t dress this way in HS. Only the jacket! My hair was a lot bigger when I started.

So worth the wait!!

SP9 goodies!

The bag has been in constant use since Sunday.

Frick thinks she can borrow it since we have the same initial. Dream on!

Insert Evil Mommy laughter here.

Frack loves the swirl in the back best. It’s all in the details!

This stuff looks even better in person.

Chocolate is being hoarded!

Look at all the yummy colors!!! Each tag is a different one – I just twisted them together.

I’m so glad I got the handspun.

Knowing it’ll be years before I have the chance to even attempt this was getting me down!

Buttons for the girls complete with art supplies!

And she even sent Javajem and I more bendy rulers :O)

And the pictures:
This is Frack’s favorite. It reminds her of being in NYC.

Her very own French beans from her garden (and now my new wallpaper)

And an insanely cool sheep pick painted on the side of an electricity sub-station in Dresden Germany of all places!

Thank you Miss Mary!!!

Monday, March 12

Dear Miss Mary,

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

Holy cow! Even the girls got spoiled again! They love their buttons and just so you know, their initials are MM and LL. They were so excited and planning many an art project with the “shiny stuff”

As you saw in the last post, I love my great new knitting bag, and all the other goodies. I promise to post and blog about the whole thing, but I can’t right now.

I’m having camera issues so it'll all be posted soon!

Thanks again!

Tada!

STT and I went to A Tangled Skein in Hyattsville on a road trip yesterday. I started binding off at the restaurant/micro-brew pub/store across the street (the service was so bad I had enough time to do the last row and over half the bind-off)

(Here’s a bonus pic of one of my SP9 goodies! More on that tomorrow!)

After a moment of panic (I’ve done this so many times on this sweater, idiot that I am should use the stinking point protectors!!)

I Finished, I finished!!!

5 skeins of painted merino. Granted, a bit steep, but it’s so freakin’ soft it was worth it.

I think I’ll have to put the crochet edging up along the neckline after all. (maybe if I had a bit more clevage, it would not be necessary)

As soon as I got home, I modeled it for CFO and he took the pics for me.

I asked him what he thought and he said,

“Wow, it looks really good. It doesn’t look like…”

“Like I made it?”

“Well, I know you made it . It just doesn’t look…”

“hand made?”

“Well, yea.”

Fine praise indeed!

In case you ever wondered,

this is what the colors of a hamburger looks like to my 6yo.

She got me thinking. So now I’m planning a science project, using natural materials to dye yarn.
We can go into the surrounding woods and look for plants and berries, then after identifying them, figure out which ones will work as dye. Then start that whole process.

It’s funny, if I wasn’t home schooling, I don’t think I would go this far. I’d just buy a bunch of dyes and get on with it.

This makes my life that much more complicated.
And that much more interesting.

Wednesday, March 7

He loves me.

CFO usually gripes about my knitting. The amount of yarn that seems to be hanging around various places in the house kinda freaks him out.

Imagine my surprise when he went online and got me this:

Not that the man can keep a secret, instead of trying to surprise me, he sent me the link that day and I’ve been waiting for the box to arrive.

Mini Colonic?

STT and I were both knitting Calorimetry from knitty. I decided to make one for each of the students. So naturally, modifications had to be made.
Here is my first attempt.

It ended up being for Frack because I only CO ½ the stitches needed for the real one.

Then I realized that it was too short so I kept the last stitch on the needle, picked up 3 sts, then knit a few rows in garter.

Worked like a charm.

Frick’s version has 90 sts (I think) and will not have the extra band knit in.

So if the adult version is the 'High Colonic', and Frick’s version will be the 'Low Colonic', does that make Frack’s the 'Mini Colonic'???
(sorry)

In other knitting news, here’s my tubey in progress:

Scarlet Fleece in Olives & Pimentos
It's looking like a 5 skein project. My most ever after Lady Eleanore.

This morning was also the first meet up of the folks in the sock club. We had bagels and coffee and enjoyed everyone’s company.

There ws even a finished pair there!

(She only came with the one)

And I’ll leave you with a little doodle from Frick.

She’s been making “sip-n-knit” posters for Miss Carole.

Friday, March 2

I’m better now.

I’m still a tad bit bitter, but after talking to Jan, I’m slowly getting over it.

She was just as amazed by my mom’s statement as I was. More so because just before Christmas they had gone shopping for new linens and she said that all the bed coverings that Mom looked at were pieced, quilted tops.

I’ve decided to keep it and use it in the guest room.

And told her that if she was lucky, I just might consider letting her sleep under it the next time she comes to visit.

STT said I should have her look at the yarn and pattern I picked out for a stole for her Mother’s day present before I start knitting it.

Good call.
