K1P2

Tonight was our 1st anniversary party for K1P2.

Great fun!

Thanks TinkKnit for the pin the tail on the alpaca!

Naturally, me being the great blogger I am, I forgot my camera.

Naturally, Javajem being the great blogger she is, remembered to bring hers. I'm sure she'll have it posted soon.

How do we thank Mr. Mike and Mrs. Min for opening their doors to us this past year?
How do we thank the great people we’ve meet this past year?
How do I thank STT for starting this group?

It’s been a great year and I’ve met some great knitters that have taught me many things.
Thanks all for making K1P2 the fun it is!

Great read.

A while back I joined a book club in the hopes that I could get away, alone, one night a month, and talk to others about my first love.

Books.

My sister Marsha taught me to read at an early age. We grew up within walking distance of our rather large local library, and Mom was big on us reading as much as possible. (Looking back now, I guess that’s the way Mom kept us on a short leash. She knew where we were and what we were doing at all times. Even when she worked full-time.) By the time I was able to get my library card in the 1st grade, the librarian let me get an adult card.
When my teacher complained (Mrs.Silverberg. Not a nice lady.) , The librarian pointed out that since I’m there at least twice a week, and she knows me, my family, and what I like to read, she can give me whatever card she wants.
(fab lady - Wanda(?). She introduced me to Heidi and Black Stallion, and Laura Ingalls Wilder. Then later Sidney Sheldon, and we’d actually discuss them when I was done)
All my life I’ve been known as “…the one who’s always reading.”

Quite honestly, if it weren’t for audio books, I really wouldn’t knit as much as I do.

As a rule, I’ll read just about everything, but tend to stick to certain authors for a bit. The only books I try to avoid are true crime stories. (I just really don’t need to know about some of the sick things that go on out there.) We just finished reading THIS. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that made me think that much about so many different things at once. Great read if you like that sort of thing.

It’s busy at LMSFG.

My mom is coming to visit at the end of the month, and one of her sisters decided to join her. While they are here, we’re taking a road trip to visit another sister in NYC. I’ve been cleaning like mad since I got back from FL to prepare for Mom’s visit, now I've realized that I have to clear out the office so my aunt has a bed of her own.
Over the past few years it has become the haven for outgrown clothing and shoes. It’s amazing. You would think, being 21 months apart, they could share. But no, I had to have daughters born in two different seasons. That means that Frick’s summer clothes fit Frack in the winter, and so on…

The day I found out about my aunt’s visit, CFO came home from work and told me that chances are he’ll start tele commuting.
Within 3 weeks.
Unless the Powers That Be restructure AGAIN.

Now I also have to clear the extra furniture out the office so he can relocate all our computer stuff.
I’ve wanted to use the office as an office since we moved here. I’ve wanted him to move all the computer paraphernalia upstairs as well (he’s a computer geek by trade and I’ve noticed they collect a LOT of stuff). I just wanted it done 3 years ago, not 3 weeks from today.

In the meantime, I’ve been planning a project for my LYS. I’ve finished the outline, researched yarns, and have a few designs to finish. I’m crazy behind since the kick off is Feb 1., and haven’t even put the things together! More info later…

Needless to say, with the mad knitting I’ve been doing, planning, cleaning, de-cluttering, teaching and general chaos, I don’t think I’ve had a moment’s peace. Sleeping is a luxury; I guess I should be glad my insomnia has kicked in with a vengeance again. (It’s amazing how much you can accomplish between the hours of 12 & 2 AM with silence and a glass of wine!) I did sneak out to K1P2 last night for a relaxing evening, knowing full well it’ll be the last one for a while.

I’m off to put my nose to the grindstone while Frick does school work. It may be a while before I resurface again. If you need me, just look under the nearest pile of clothes.

I’ll be the one cradling the empty wine bottle.

Sorry I haven't updated,

but I've been busy knitting. 2007’s been all about the FO’s baby!

I’ve been busy in the New Year finishing this:

Thank you SP for the FAB yarn!!!

And thanks to Glowing Kay for the great blocking job!

(A bit of advice here: If any of your friends go to an event like Stitches and only buy an iron, do not mock them!!!)

All I have left to do is bro-in-law’s hat, and I finished with my obligatory knitting.

Then it's off to get my stinking quilt done (that'll be the last time I make a King sized one!), and then I can start knitting the fun stuff again!

My big girl!

This should have gone out yesterday, but Blogger forbade me access all day...

Look at what my baby can do!

When I asked how she learned to tie bows, she said Duckie showed her how.

Happy New Year!

So my K1P2 friend Tink sends me this You Tube video way too late to help me.
My sisters (I’m the baby of the 3) and I are kinda bitter we didn’t have the earmuffs, or repellent spray, or the darts, or Dr Phil in a can…
At some point we realized that it had been 5 years since we were all together last (to celebrate the 45th anniversary of my mother’s 15th birthday). Now I remember why.

My trip started with the news from my sister that her exFIL died the afternoon before we left. My older sister (we’ll call her Marsha) and Niece were already in Florida when she got the call, so CFO and I decided to take a detour to meet up with them and drop off Nephew at the funeral service in Lake Alfred, FL.
How bad can it be? It’ll only be about a 3 hr detour.
As usual, famous last words. Thanks to traffic and an accident (not us thank GOD), we finally arrived in Ft Lauderdale 24 hours after we left MD.
JOY.

So we finally arrived and were greeted at Mom & Dad’s with a purple Christmas tree!

My middle sister Jan got it for us as a surprise. We spent the next day getting ready for the 24th. That was the only night I got any amount of knitting done.

Christmas Eve was spent HERE watching the Ravens/Steelers game. I must say, if you’re ever in the area, this is the best place ever! Good food, good service, good people.
When I called STT to tell here there were some Steelers fans there with their terrible towels, she had me buy them a round to thank them for being there to bug CFO.

After the game it was back to Mom & Dad’s for Christmas Eve dinner.

We got to hang with relatives that I haven’t seen since I was about 14 or so. I must say; 24 years between visits is not nearly enough time for some people.

Christmas Day was spent at Jan’s house with her in-laws in from Hungary. It is their first visit to the U.S., and my “bus” amused them.

Here's Jan's tree. Yes, those are gumballs she strung as garland. All the ornaments are either gingerbread or chocolate. She also painted the picture in the background.

No, it does not run in the family.

The day after Christmas was spent at the beach. We hung out, bbq'd, and searched for seashells.
It was kinda chilly and rainy, but heck! We’re in Florida! Who cares?

The next morning we headed up to Middle of Nowhere, GA to get to Marsha’s house. Now, keep in mind that we are 3 sisters born and bred in New York. I’m the only one of us who has ever been camping.
She now lives on a farm with The Man and Niece, and keeps bees, chickens, and has a pet potbelly pig named Heidi (Frack kept calling her Hiney).

We went for a hike in all this nature and crossed 2 creeks never leaving their property. It was a good visit.

I’m not sure what was funnier:
Marsha with a pig in her arms,
Frack chasing the chickens waving Barbie shouting “Shoo! Shoo!”,
or Frack's rendition of Jingle Bells sung while jingling the reindeer headband that she put on Heidi.

I have it all on tape. I see many a fun evening when Frack starts dating…

This New Year was rung in with STT and girl, banging pots and shooting off fireworks (if you are in law enforcement and reading this, it was a few kids that we didn’t recognize, they went down the block.)

All in all, as much as I wish I had pharmaceuticals for some of it, I am very happy we went. Nephew will be sent to Iraq in a few months and this was the only chance we had to be all together. We’re not sure how long it will be before we get another chance.

I don't think I’m looking forward to this new year. I’ll spend some of it worried about him going, then the rest of the year worried because he’s there. Frack sent him off with her mini Duckie and many kisses. I hope God keeps them all safe.
