The road to the asylum is paved with scarves

I’ve decided my FIL is no longer getting the stinking Lolo scarf for Christmas.
Maybe next year.
Then I decided CFO is no longer getting the scarf I designed for him.
Maybe someday.

After making those 2 command decisions, I came across this:

http://www.ysolda.me.uk/wordpress/index.php/archives/2005/07/18/skull-illusion-scarf/

And it got me thinking about a different scarf design for CFO.
Not that I’ve ever tried illusion knitting.
Not that I have a chart to work from.

Fun things for Saturday

You Are Animal

A complete lunatic, you're operating on 100% animal instincts.
You thrive on uncontrolled energy, and you're downright scary.
But you sure can beat a good drum.
"Kill! Kill!"

What would Cinderella knit?

I was loading a book to my i tunes library and spent the time surfing. In my wanderings, I came a cross this:

http://www.purlescence.co.uk/storytellers/

Which made me think. What would I knit?

I have a list of things I want to make from knitty. I have a million different patterns stored on my computer and printed out, both free and purchased. I’ve designed many different projects in my wee leetle head. I’ve skirts, scarves, stoles (I like them better than shawls), toys, hats, gloves, mittens, and millions of socks.

I’m really not sure what I’d do. Knowing me, I’d make that sturdy washcloth (I already have a cool purple one with a martini glass) while dreaming of making something like this:

It's great to have friends

that knit!

Don't get me wrong, I have the BEST group of non-knitting friends. They are great enablers. Pebbles even went with me to a store in Queens and waited while I wandered the aisles. Then ran to the bank for me when I found out they only took cash while I looked around some more. That's a friend for you.

Javajem has been in NM for work. As any good knitter will, she scouted out the area and found not only yarn shops, but 2, count 'em, 2 sit-n-knits!

Being the great friend she is, she got me these mini skeins:

The rainbow ones are begging me to make something fun for my (not so) sullen teenager niece. I'm thinking hat, wrist warmers, or maybe a funky scarf.
the ones on the right are screaming lace. Not sure what can be done with mini-skeins of mohair, but something good will come of it.

Javajem ROCKS!

Another great knitting day

As every day is! Followed by a great knitting night.
Javajem got her socks from Sock Wars in the mail and wore them to K1P2 tonight (I forgot to take a picture of her proudly wearing the socks that killed her).
I was able to actually write out a pattern for a project I'm working on for my LYS(more on that later). I think I have most of it worked out, I should be able to knit it up tomorrow.
And I got much knitting done on another pair of socks.

Javajem also set up Sheeper Than Therapy with her own blog to promote her brainchild,

First Annual Knit- A-Thon
October 14, 2006 10am- 3pm
10227 Wincopin Circle
Columbia, MD 21044
(410) 772 3694

Since the Knit-Out in DC was canceled this year, STT decided to start this one to fill our charity knitting needs. We'll be giving out raffle tickets to all who donate items before 3pm.

We'll be collecting:
Knit or Crochet blankets (lap, baby, or afghan size)
chemo caps
pink scarves
red scarves
preemie caps
7x9 squares to be assembled for Warm-Up America blankets

She's been running all around town trying to get the word out, and was able to get great raffle prizes donated by many local businesses. If anyone's in the area, please come by. It'll be a great day!

Mr. Mike, owner of the Lakeside Cafe got to use the swift tonight.

We'll make a knitter out of him yet!

As you can see, he's a great sport. As soon as he heard about it, he graciously offered the use of the Cafe!

Done! Sock Wars round 1

I was able to mail out my socks to TX this morning. Yeah me!!
Now what?

I was messing around with Lolo's scarf, and came to the realization that if I wanted to figure the thing out,

I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and do a (dare I say it??) swatch.

Naturally, me being me, cannot bend the laws of nature like that. I avoid thinking about using the S word as much as possible. As a matter of fact, this is what happened the last time I needed one...

I was trying to see if I could use these 2 yarns for yet ANOTHER project in my wee little head. So instead of making a coaster and felting it, like any sane person would, I had to go ahead and make an entire stinkin' purse.

Yea, I'm like that.

Something tells me that the same thing is going to happen again...

Sock Wars

Seemed like some good innocent fun at the time. Make a sock, send it off, even if you die immediately, you get a new pair of socks.

Amid all the confusion, acts of nature, various illnesses, connectivity issues, housework, feeding the family..., I'm almost there.

Sock Wars

Alas! All this knitting cut into my knitting time!

I was at WoolWinders yesterday with Javajem & Sheeper than Therapy taking a great class on beading and cables. We gave up, frogged the suckers after a bit, and all worked on these...

I'm working on the foot of #2 now.

With any luck, I should finish it at Frick's piano lesson and in the mail this afternoon.

K1P2

Thursday's are my regular Sit-n-Knit nights with my group, K1P2. Since the CFO of LMSFG is out of town, I decided to take my students, Frick & Frack, with me.

As a rule, I don't.

Frick knits, sort of, and crochets, sort of (considering she's 5 and a half, I'm rather pleased at her attempts). Since she does, she's allowed to come to S&K every now and again.

Frack on the other hand, at 4, will not be allowed near pointy sticks anytime in the near future (if you knew her, you'd thank me for that). This was her first time there.

I was actually complemented on how well behaved they were.
Coming from a single woman with no children, it was taken as a complement.

I was supposed to pick up and knit one round of the stitches on the Swirl Hat for Holly.
I was supposed to try to finish Uncle Lenny's hat. 15 rounds to go.
I was supposed to work on Lolo's scarf.
A lot to do in the 3 hrs that I was at S&K, but I knew I could accomplish SOMETHING.

Needless to say, the only member of our family that got any real knitting done,

was Duckie.

CFO comes home tomorrow.

UFO's

OK - so SOMEONE who shall remain nameless (you know who you are STT!) commented on my many ufos. Yes, there are. Yes SOMEDAY they will be finished.

Although it goes against every fiber of my being, I'm listing in print all my "on the needles" in the hopes that they will get done.

  • Uncle Lenny's' hat (freak bro in-law wanted navy & black stripes. 15 rows to go - you blame me?)
  • Krysti's shawl (afore mentioned's ex-girlfriend that we are all pissed at him for dumping)
  • Gift healing shawl
  • Gift blanket
  • Gift Lace stole
  • Gift socks
  • Al's purse
  • Snowdrop Stole
  • Team knitting blanket
  • Preemie hat
  • Liea hats (CO1 must make 3)
  • mittens for Frick & Frack
  • CFO's scarf (another one of those experimental projects. More on it later)
  • Lolo's scarf
  • Lorna's Lace sock#2 (not my fault. I dropped a needle and haven't gotten it back from the person who found it!)
  • Swirl hat
  • Project for LYS

These are just the ones that need to get finished soon. I ran out of cables for my interchangeable set.

I'm not even thinking about the quilt top that I pieced for Mom&Dad that needs to be quilted before we go to Florida for Christmas. Nor am I thinking about the things I have the yarn for and haven't cast on yet.

joy

Oh yes, i forgot. The best part of all is SockWars, (did anyone else notice that if you spellcheck sockwars it wants to replace it with suckers?) and need to have that done in the middle of all this...

It's done. I'm one of THEM now.

Today was the first meeting with a new group of home schoolers. I've just started down this path and I wanted my children to meet other kids who do not go to a "regular" either.
It was interesting.
The highlight was when not one, not two, but three of the Moms (there was only 1 Dad there) said they recognized me as soon as I whipped out my knitting.
I have the feeling I'm going to be known as "you know, the one who's always knitting".

So, on the knitting front.
I wanted to do something cool and interesting for my FIL. I have this great idea in my wee little head that has been trying to burst out of my fingers. I have started and frogged the sucker 4 times now. I WILL figure it out!!!

It doesn't help that I've been sidetracked by this:
http://bleuarts.blogspot.com/2006/09/free-pattern-leia-hat.html

I'm thinking of making it part of our official school winter uniforms.
